What is the definition of hydrophilic and hydrophobic?
Materials with a special affinity for water — those it spreads across, maximising contact — are known as hydrophilic. Materials that naturally repel water, causing droplets to form, are known as hydrophobic.
Coils that have not been coated have high surface tension. This causes water to carry over and can restrict airflow on fins that are placed close together. This is most prevalent in adiabatic systems where the cooling process depends on evaporation and airflow.
